1851-C. NGC graded MS-61. Boldly struck and untoned. Only 41,267 struck. A frosty, satiny pale greenish golden coin with muted luster on both sides, somewhat less distinct over Liberty's hair waves. Nicely struck as well, with just a hint of weakness at the centers. Star rays show completely. New Orleans struck Type 1 gold dollars annually, and when the switch was made to the Indian Type 2 in 1854, strikes continued at this Southern mint in 1854 and 1855. But then minting ceased at least for this denomination, at New Orleans. Pop 61; 67 finer (PCGS # 7514) . Estimated Value $2,800 - 3,000. Categories: $1 Gold
