Macedonian Kingdom. Philip II, 359-336 bc. Silver Tetradrachm (14.48g). Pella, ca. 342/1-ca. 337/6 BC. Lifetime issue. Laureate head of Zeus right. Reverse ΦIΛIΠ-[Π]OY, youth on horseback right, crowning horse with palm; below horse's belly, vertical thunderbolt; in exergue, N. Le Rider 199 (D116/R163); SNG ANS 380 (same obv. die). Lovely high relief style. Extremely Fine. The thunderbolt-N series of Philip II tetradrachms from Pella is an extensive grouping struck from very handsome obverse dies. Of course, some dies are better than others, this being the first according to Le Rider's arrangement, and arguably one of the finest. Estimated Value $900 - 1,000 Categories: Ancient Greek Coinage
