(sold for $1350.0)

1868 Pattern Five Cents. Nickel, Plain Edge. Judd-633 Pollock-704 Rarity 4. PCGS graded Proof 63. This scarce variety incorporates Longacre's attractive head of Liberty similar to the one used on the Three-cent Nickels but with more ornamentation on it, including beads along the coronet's edge, a large star implanted on it above the hairline, and a fancy large Roman V with IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above. Filling the open space is a small iron cross as well, all a part of the designer's artistic merit and sense of balance to his composition (PCGS # 60851) . Estimated Value $1,400 - 1,450.
