金币一美元或金币一美元硬币是美国铸币局在 1849 年至 1889 年间定期铸造的硬币。这种硬币在其存在期间有三种类型，均由铸币局首席雕刻师詹姆斯·B·朗埃克设计。就直径而言，第 1 类硬币是美国有史以来铸造的最小硬币。

19 世纪 30 年代和 40 年代曾多次提议发行金元，但最初并未被采纳。加州淘金热导致金银供应增加，国会最终采取行动，并于 1849 年批准发行金元。在早期，银币被囤积或出口，而金元则在商业中占有一席之地。1853 年国会要求将新银币的重量减轻，此后银币再次开始流通，而早在联邦硬币因美国内战造成的经济混乱而退出流通之前，金元就已成为商业中的稀有物。

当时对 1 型设计的评价普遍良好。1849 年 5 月 19 日，《纽约论坛周报》将新一美元描述为“毫无疑问是这个国家最整洁、最小、最轻的硬币……它太精致、太漂亮了，不适合用来买土豆、酸菜和咸猪肉。奥伯龙可能会用它来支付帕克带来的迷住泰坦尼亚的花朵。”威利斯的《银行票据清单》指出，“它们不可能进入一般流通；它们太小了。”《北卡罗来纳标准报》希望它们能在夏洛特铸币厂铸造并在当地流通，以消除州外小面额银行票据的问题。
