Angesichts zunehmender negativer öffentlicher Reaktionen wurden die Coronet-Cents 1835 vom neuen Chefgraveur Christian Gobrecht neu gestaltet. Diese letzte große Änderung an der Münze aktualisierte die Vorderseite, indem sie der Liberty ein schlankeres, jugendlicheres Aussehen verlieh. Bis 1843 wurden kleinere Änderungen vorgenommen, und das Design von 1843 setzte sich bis zum Ende der Prägung im Jahr 1857 durch. Etwa 11 Jahre nach der Einstellung des großen Cents prägte ein Mitarbeiter der Münzanstalt mehrere große Cents aus dem Jahr 1868, die höchstwahrscheinlich als sofortige Raritäten an Numismatiker verkauft wurden. Es ist bekannt, dass weniger als ein Dutzend dieser inoffiziellen Ausgaben, die sowohl in Bronze als auch in Kupfer-Nickel geprägt sind, erhalten geblieben sind.
