This omission resulted in a public outcry and the Mint modified the coinage tools to create the legend "DEI GRA:" in later issues. Lettering: GEORGIVS V REX ET IND:IMP: Engraver: Edgar Bertram MacKennal Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, KCVO, usually known as Bertram Mackennal, was an Australian sculptor, most famous for designing the coinage and stamps bearing the likeness of King George V.
